Pinduoduo Inc. (Nasdaq: PDD) was founded in 2015 and has grown rapidly to become one of the largest e-commerce marketplace operators in the world. In less than five years, Pinduoduo has surpassed 1 trillion yuan in gross merchandise value (GMV), amassed almost 700 million users and crossed $100 billion in market valuation.

Our business is anchored by the twin pillars of offering consumers value-for-money merchandise and a fun and interactive shopping experience. We pioneered an innovative “team purchase” model that transformed online shopping into a dynamic social experience. Unlike the conventional search-based “inventory index” model of e-commerce, our platform is built to resemble a “virtual bazaar” where buyers browse and explore a full spectrum of products on our platform while interacting with one another.

Pinduoduo is also spearheading the transition of retail from a production-driven process, or “how much can we produce,” to one that is initiated by demand, or “how much should we produce.” This is possible because of our strengths in aggregating and analyzing consumer behavior on our platform. The findings are channeled to merchants to help them adjust their production, inventory planning, sales plans, and logistics services. By informing upstream suppliers of consumer demand, this consumer-to-manufacturer (“C2M”) model has the potential to cut down on wastage and mismatches in supply and demand.  

As the leading online agriculture marketplace in China, Pinduoduo has made improving the productivity and efficiency of the agriculture industry supply chain its strategic focus. We plan to further invest in and develop agricultural analytics, precision farming technology, agriculture-specific logistics, food safety, and share the gains with farmers and consumers. Building an open and inclusive digital ecosystem that benefits all lies at the core of our corporate philosophy and mission.
